Sushi Origami!

Hi Everyone,

Recently, I was stuck working from home and my 5-year old daughter really wanted to play with me. I was super-busy, so I couldn’t play with her, so I suggested to her that she make something. She went off into the next room, got her paper, and started making sushi for me!

I took these photos later at night, after she was sleeping. She actually made different pieces of sushi for me using paper. The picture above shows a piece of ikura sushi in the front, a california-roll on the left and a piece of “pink” salmon on the far-left. In the back, from left to right, is uni (urchin) and ika (squid). They look very realistic. Compare with this image of a real piece of ikura sushi.

Below, you can see she also made maguro (blue-fin tuna) and in the back tamago (egg) too:

Again, the “sushi” has a lot of detail. The little “eggs” in the ikura sushi look kind of real.

But she didn’t stop there! She also made a small tea-cup with green tea (left) and a bowl for wasabi. It’s on the top. She made a little paper-scoop and wasabi using green paper. On the bottom is a small container for “soy sauce” which are little brown strips of paper. The container even has a little spout for the sushi too:

I asked my wife, and she insisted that she didn’t help my daughter at all. She just came up with this on her own, but I think she was inspired by her visits to her favorite sushi place here in Seattle. Her favorite is ikura and we order it regularly for her. Kids are amazing. ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Looks delicious!

You’re clever to document it online, we have boxes of early arts and crafts from our kids that are impossible to toss but remain hidden. Wait till they get their own apartment!
