Beginner Buddhism Season 2, Lesson 5: Buddhist Holidays

With Nirvana Day coming in a couple of weeks, I felt it was a good time to explore Buddhist holidays:

Nothing says “respectable authority” like a Santa hat. ;p

Note that this is in a Mahayana Buddhist (Tibet, China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam) context only. A different calendar and set of holidays are used in Theravada Buddhism, though the spirit is same: celebrating the milestones of the Buddha’s life. It’s similar to Western Christian vs. Orthodox Christian calendars in a way (Christmas is in December or January, depending on which one you follow). 🙂

Enjoy!
