Something to think about

I found this quote recently by famous British author, George Orwell, and felt it was still true today:

The nationalist not only does not disapprove of atrocities committed by his own side, but he has a remarkable capacity for not even hearing about them.

Indeed, you can see examples of this “deafness” in many places in the world.

P.S. Feeling inspired this week. Expect many little posts. ;p

  1. We have to keep our ears open to the world I guess he is saying. Do you think that more people are simply not listening now-a-days. had a talk to australian family and they said it is seems to be the case there. i think it is happening in Japan too. How-about in the US?

    1. Hi Aussie,

I don’t think it’s worse now than it was, say, 100 years ago. I just think it’s an unfortunate human trait. Patriotism can become nationalism very easily so people have to stay vigilant and not forget that other cultures, other humans exist.
