Heart Sutra in Korean

Something kind of random, but cool that I stumbled upon lately. While watching episode 15 of the Korean historical drama “Jewel in the Palace” (mentioned here), there is a scene where one of the palace women chants the Buddhist Heart Sutra (panya shimgyeong, 반야심경, 般若心経) in Korean.

You have to go to 50:55, where’s she’s praying that her friend will win the competition, but the rival girl next to her is not amused and makes a “voodoo doll” drawing. 😉

Sorry, no English subtitles in this version.

Anyhow, just kind of cool and interesting to see how the Heart Sutra sounds in Korean, especially in a drama like that. It seems quite similar to other languages, because it is really being recited in Classical Chinese, but definitely has a “Korean” sound too.
