Getting Ready for Bodhi Day

Hello dear readers,

I uploaded this video to Youtube earlier today, which talks a little bit about the Buddhist holiday of Bodhi Day:

In particular, I wanted show people how to celebrate Bodhi Day at home, especially with family. Since I have a daughter (and now a son) who are growing up Buddhist in a culture that is mostly non-Buddhist, I wanted them to have some kind of special, wholesome tradition they can remember when growing. Admittedly some things are adapted from Christmas, but then again most Christmas traditions are part of the original holiday anyway. ;p

Hopefully though this will help give ideas for people to celebrate the Buddha’s Enlightenment (悟り) in their own way.

Also, I tried to slow down when talking, since I often talk too fast. After watching teh video, I realized I still talk too fast sometimes, but hopefully it is easier to follow than before.

Thanks and Happy Bodhi Day.

  1. We put Buddha (statue) under the Christmas tree on the 7th of december with the decorations on but with the lights turned off. Then we let him meditate for a night and in the morning turn on the lights on the tree to celebrate his enlightenment 🙂
